A recent project for Craft Recordings, a single-LP front line collection of the best work of Charlie Parker for Savoy and Debut. They wanted something in the style of other 50s jazz albums, which I loved working on. Illustration by my daughter, Caroline Sellards, so it was wonderful to work with her on this important release.

A box set of Candlebox' first series of albums, for Run Out Groove, which included rebuilding art for the original albums, plus design of an additional rarities disc.

A project developed and designed for Sony/Legacy for Record Store Day featuring an album’s worth of Elvis’ folk-based material, designed to resonate with and emulate other similar-styled LPs of the era. I wrote the liner notes as placeholder copy during the design process and they wound up remaining, with a few changes, on the final edition.

For a couple of years I worked on several Kinks projects, sometimes concurrently, including the Sony/Legacy Essential Kinks CD collection, deluxe reissues of Everybody’s In Show-Biz and Muswell Hillbillies, and jacket restorations for the mono LP box (not pictured here). This work included rebuilding/digitizing several original band logos, type, and extensive photo research and restoration.

A trio of singles by Jeff Beck featuring some of his most sought-after early recordings. Two of the singles (“Tally Man” and “Hi-Ho Silver Lining”) feature liner notes by Gene Simmons.

A comprehensive project for Resonance Records from 2019, a compendium of Nat King Cole’s early, pre-Capitol recordings that frequently showcase his heralded jazz piano and vocal stylings.

This set was named the best reissue of 2019 by Forbes, and cited by numerous other publications for its excellence. Also pictured are related digital singles and albums, which were released over the following year.

Designed for Day’s 2019 Animal Foundation Fundraiser, this collection of rare airchecks and other material is also available as a regular release from Real Gone Music.

James Brown envisioned this triple-LP live collection, which was not issued as originally planned in the early 70s, as 3 platters with different titles…one is “Love,” another “Power,” and the final, “Peace.” I was asked to design a sympathetic package to house the first-ever issue of his original mixes, which included rebuilding elements of the typefaces used on original Polydor labels.

We also had the original label copy sheets, which indicated the sides were to be configured in a vintage changer-friendly setup, which I pushed for with this release. Not everybody was happy with this, but this was the way the artist intended the music, and I felt we should honor the documentation.

My mother’s favorite singer, and an artist whose music I’ve heard literally all of my life. I’m honored to have been involved in a number of expanded reissues of his original LPs, plus to have designed the first-ever standalone release of his long-lost collaboration with Chic, I Love My Lady. The latter was purposefully stylized as an early-era Columbia CD, as I thought had the album come out in 1981 as originally intended and been successful, it likely would have been among the first couple of batches of discs released when the format was new.

I was asked by Sony/Legacy in 2014 to design this box of Orbison’s Monument LPs, plus an album-that-should-have-been featuring his last major hit for the label, “Oh, Pretty Woman.” It was an thrill to work with this catalog and to develop the new LP, which has since become a standard part of the Orbison catalog and is available on streaming services and as a standalone vinyl purchase. I have a collection of custom, exclusive vintage typefaces that I have digitized over the years which were used extensively here, especially on the labels to correctly replicate what period-correct pressings would look like.

A collection of four singles of rare Hendrix masters, all with newly-design sleeves. Three of the four images were also colorized, with one (“Come On (Let the Good Times Roll)”) being matched to another vintage color shot of him in the same clothing. Labels feature exclusive period-correct typography from a set of faces I digitized to be able to truly capture the essence of vintage pressings.

An expanded set of the Supremes’ holiday classic for Real Gone Music/Second Disc Records in cooperation with Motown, with many color images and rare ephemera. It’s always a deep honor to work with the Motown catalog, and I was especially proud of this dynamic, colorful collection.

A 3-LP set for Run Out Groove of a collection of Tony Joe White’s rare and unissued Monument masters, with extended liner notes and new photos by Stephen Paley.

The complete Warner Bros. recordings of Alice Coltrane, designed for Real Gone Music. The main type treatment is a vintage face that I digitized, and was happy to utilize for these legendary performances.

A recent project for Real Gone Music, the 3rd edition of Cheap Trick's series of rarities, entitled "The Epic Archive Vol. 3 (1984-1992)." This flame-red vinyl 2-LP set will be available for Record Store Day—and there's also a CD edition, as well. This is an incredibly powerful collection, not a weak or wasted moment from beginning to end.

A set of packages for Sony/Legacy of Sly and the Family Stone captured live in their heyday, designed to replicate original Epic releases of the era. The CD package panels include mock LP covers for each show/disc, and the labels feature the otherwise-lost face that appeared on every Columbia-related release of the time, which I digitized several years ago and have utilized on many projects since.

For Resonance Records, a 2LP/2CD set of Wes Montgomery’s earliest masters, presented with numerous rare images, and extensive new liner notes.

Two recent projects for Ace, highlighting the work of two of my favorite performers from the 60s - Chuck Jackson and Maxine Brown. These are essential collections of these timeless artists, and I’m honored to have worked with their catalogs.

A recent project for Iain Matthews/Cherry Red, a 4CD collection of the artist's demos, live recordings and other ephemera from the dawn of his career until now. Includes a 36 page booklet with rare photos from his archive and extensive annotations by the man himself. 

I've been fan for many, many years (thanks to Jim Owston regaling me with high praise for his work when I was in high school, which influenced me in a big way) so it's a wonderful opportunity to be a part of this rich retrospective.
